There are 2 new cases in the Atlantic Bubble today, 1 in NFLD and 1 in NS; NB reports 1 recovery. The new case in NFLD is a female between 20 and 39 years old. The case is travel related where the woman, who is a resident of the province, was returning home from Alberta. She has been self-isolating since her arrival. The new case in NS is in the Central Zone and is related to travel outside of Atlantic Canada. The individual has been self-isolating as required. This means there are 2 active cases in PEI, 3 in NS, 5 in NB and 3 in NFLD, none known to be related to the Atlantic Bubble itself. In NS, 53/65 (82%) NS deaths are from Northwood and 57/65 (88%) are from long term care in general (11 different facilities have reported cases, none have an active case). Yesterday, 952 tests were completed with 1 new case reported.

From the Press Release:
The province of NS is renewing the state of emergency to protect the health and safety of Nova Scotians and ensure safety measures and other important actions can continue. The order will take effect at noon Sunday, Oct. 4 and extend to noon Sunday, Oct. 18, unless government terminates or extends it.

As of today, instead of calling 811 as a first step, people can now do a COVID-19 self-assessment online. This will reduce the wait time to be screened for testing from 12 hours to about 10 minutes. If the online assessment determines that a person requires a test, the Nova Scotia Health Authority or the IWK Health Centre will call them within 24 to 48 hours to book an appointment.

“With school resuming and other parts of Canada seeing a second wave of COVID-19, we are increasing our capacity to test people with symptoms more quickly to make sure we detect and manage cases,” said Premier McNeil. “Our first step is a new online COVID-19 self-assessment tool, which will dramatically reduce the wait time for screening.”
